Image Integrator combines the power of Aldus Fetch and QuarkXPress. Image Integrator is an XTension that allows the user to import pictures from Fetch catalogs to special libraries in QuarkXPress. The interaction between QuarkXPress and Fetch is accomplished by pasting the disk reference and a thumbnail preview of each picture into the clipboard. Image Integrator then imports the images into QuarkXPress. Image Integrator allows all QuarkXPress Image types to be imported. This includes EPS, TIFF, RIFF, Scitex CT, PICT, and PAINT . For other types, you can order the XTension Touch from Vision╒s Edge.

@Head2:Creating a New Library
@Body:
To create a new Image Integrator library, first open the Fetch catalog that contains the graphics to be included in the Image Integrator library. If the graphics are contained in more than one Fetch catalog, create a new library from one catalog, then later add the graphics found in the other catalogs. Select the desired items in the Fetch catalog, then choose Copy Reference from the Fetch Edit menu. The Copy Reference hierarchical menu allows the user to either just Include Text or Include Thumbnails and Text. Choose the desired type of information to be copied to the clipboard. Next go to QuarkXPress and select Open Image Integrator╔ from the QuarkXPress Utilities menu. When the dialog appears prompting the user to select an Image Library, click the New button. If Aldus Fetch item information is not present in the clipboard, Image Integrator creates an empty Image Library. If Aldus Fetch Item information is present in the clipboard, Image Integrator creates a new Image Library and imports the image information into the new Image Library.

@:<Bf"Palatino-Roman">Opening an Existing Library
@Body:
To open an existing Image Integrator Library, select Open Image Library╔ from the Utilities menu. A dialog appears, prompting the user to select an Image Integrator library to open. When a library is selected, click the OK button. The palette appears, displaying the contents of the chosen Image Integrator library in text list form. Image Integrator allows the user to open up to seven palettes at the same time so that the user may view multiple Image Integrator libraries at once. Another way of opening an existing Image Integrator Library is opening it in the Finder (System 7 only). This is done by either Double-Clicking on the Image Library╒s Icon or Dragging the Image Library╒s Icon into QuarkXPress╒ Icon. (For all you Power User╒s - Image Integrator adds an Apple Event Handler to QuarkXPress to allow it to accept an Open Document Event from the Finder for Image Integrator Libraries.)
@Head2:Adding to an Existing Library
@Body:
To add items from a Fetch catalog to an existing Image Integrator library, open the Fetch catalog that contains the graphics to be added to the Image Integrator library. Select the desired items in the Fetch catalog, then choose Copy Reference from the Aldus Fetch Edit menu. The Copy Reference hierarchical menu allows the user to either Include Text or Include Thumbnails and Text. Choose the desired type of information to be copied to the clipboard. Then go to QuarkXPress and open the Image Integrator library the items should be added to. Next, select the Import item from the File menu found on the Image Integrator palette. Image Integrator imports the information held on the clipboard into the currently open Image Integrator library.

@Head2:Sending Reference to a Library
@Normal:
@Body:The fast way of getting Aldus Fetch items into Image Integrator is to use the Send Reference from the Aldus Fetch Item menu (System 7 only). This is accomplished by loading QuarkXPress, switching to Aldus Fetch, and then selecting the items you wish to send. After choosing the Send Reference command in the Item menu, a dialog will appear displaying a list of current applications. Selecting QuarkXPress on the current machine, and hitting OK will send the items to QuarkXPress.

@Head2:Removing Items from a Library
@Normal:
@Body:To remove items from an Image Integrator library, select the item or items to be deleted. Use the shift key to multiply select items in the library. Then select Remove from the Item menu found on the Image Integrator library palette. The items vanish from the palette. If library items are deleted in error, close the library without saving the changes made to it, then reopen it.
@Normal:
@Head2:Displaying Another Library
@Normal:
@Body:To display a different Image Integrator library in the current Image Integrator palette, select the Open╔ item from the Image Integrator palette╒s File menu. Use the dialog that appears to choose the new library to be viewed. When the OK button is clicked, the new library information replaces the previous library╒s display in the palette. If there is a need to display a second Image Integrator library in a second palette, open the library by choosing Open Image Integrator╔ from the QuarkXPress Utilities menu instead.
@Normal:
@Head2:Saving an Image Integrator Library
@Body:
Once items have been added or removed from an Image Integrator library, the changed library may be saved. To save the changes made to the library, select the Save item from the File menu found on the Image Integrator palette. This saves the altered library by overwriting the previous version.
@Normal:
@Head2:Saving a Library with a New Name
@Normal:
@Body:To save the changes made to an Image Integrator library without writing over the previous version of the library, select the Save As╔ item from the File menu found on the Image Integrator palette. A dialog appears, prompting the user for a new name for the library. Use the dialog to enter a new name for the library or to save the library into a different folder of volume.

@Head2:Multiple Selecting Items
@Normal:
@Body:Items in an Image Integrator library may be multiple selected in one of two ways. The first way to multiple select items in the library is to click on the first item, then hold down the shift key while clicking on additional items. Another way to select multiple items in the library is to choose Select All from the Item menu on the Image Integrator palette. This selects all of the items in the current library.
@Normal:
@Head2:Displaying a Text List
@Normal:
@Body:When the Image Integrator library is first opened, a text list of items in the library automatically appears. If the library is currently displaying thumbnails of the graphics in the library, select Text List from the Image Integrator palette╒s View menu. The text list display of the current library╒s items appears. The text list includes each item╒s name, its file type, the volume where the file is stored, and the folder which contains the file. If the volume containing the file is not currently mounted, or the file is not found, the folder name displays as ╥Error╙.
@Normal:
@Head2:Displaying Thumbnails
@Body:
Image Integrator can display library items in text list form or it can display thumbnails. To display thumbnails of the graphics in the library, thumbnails must have been imported from Fetch. When a display of thumbnails in the Image Integrator palette is desired, select Thumbnail from the Image Integrator palette╒s View menu. The current library╒s items are displayed showing a thumbnail representation of each graphic accompanied by its file name, file type, and volume.
@Normal:
@Head2:Changing the Display Order
@Body:
Items in an Image Integrator library can be displayed according to several criteria. When a library is first opened, it automatically displays items in the order they were added to the library. The items can be displayed this way at any time by selecting By Order from the Image Integrator palette╒s View menu. The library items may also be sorted by file name, graphic type, volume or folder. Any of these orders can be selected by choosing the appropriate item from the Image Integrator palette╒s View menu. A shortcut to displaying items in text list format is to click on the word Name, Type, Volume or Folder found at the top of the columns of information in the palette. Clicking on any of these underlines the word and sorts the library items by that criteria. This is similar to the feature found in the Aldus Fetch or the Finder.
@Normal:
@Head2:Importing Library Items to a Box
@Body:
To import an item from an Image Integrator library into a graphic box in the current QuarkXPress document, select the desired graphic box. Then click on the item in the Image Integrator library that is to be imported into the document. Next, select Place from the palette╒s Item menu. Image Integrator imports the graphic into the selected graphic box. A picture may also be imported into the currently selected graphic box by dragging the item from the Image Integrator library onto the document.
@Normal:
@Head2:Adding Library Items to Document
@Body:
Items from an Image Integrator library can be added to the current document without the user╒s creating a graphic box to receive them. One way to add a graphic to a document is to select the desired graphic on the Image Integrator palette, then choose Place from the palette╒s Item menu. Image Integrator creates a graphic box at the X=72 pt Y=72 pt coordinate on the current document and imports the selected graphic into the box. If more than one graphic is selected when the Place command is chosen, Image integrator places the first graphic in a box on the document then cascades graphic boxes from that point down and to the right to accommodate the other chosen pictures. To place a graphic on the document at a point other than the default X=72 pt Y=72 pt coordinate, click on the desired graphic in the Image Integrator palette and drag over onto the document. The place where the mouse is released becomes the upper left corner of the graphic box which is created to contain the graphic. Image Integrator creates the new graphic box and imports the picture into the new box.

@Head2:Information about Library Items
@Body:
To view more detailed information about a graphic included in an Image Integrator library, select the desired graphic on the Image Integrator palette and then choose Get Info from the Item menu, or double-click on the item. A dialog appears, listing information about the graphic, including the file╒s name, type, size, creation date, modification date, volume, full path name, and the creator. The dialog also displays a thumbnail-size preview of the graphic. Double-clicking on the graphic╒s preview launches the program that created the graphic to allow easy modification of the artwork.

@Head2:Activating Aldus Fetch
@Body:
Since Image Integrator is a way to make Fetch catalogs easily accessible from QuarkXPress, the XTension offers a way to activate Aldus Fetch from within QuarkXPress to save the user time. To activate Fetch, choose Open Fetch from the Image Integrator palette╒s File menu. (Note: this is System 7 only. The algorithm for determing whether to launch Aldus Fetch 1.0 or Aldus Fetch 1.2 is that Image Integrator launches 1.2 by default but if 1.0 is already open it switches to it.)
@Head2:Closing an Image Integrator Palette
@Body:
An Image Integrator palette may be closed two ways. Either select Close from the palette╒s File menu or click the close box in the upper-left corner of the palette. If items have been added to or deleted from the Image Integrator library while the palette was open, a dialog appears, allowing the user to choose whether or not the changes should be saved.
